The Magic of Sourdough: Why Our Bread Stands Out
Hello, Sourdough Lovers!
At WEIRDOUGH, we believe that bread is more than just a staple food; it’s a celebration of craftsmanship, tradition, and community. Today, we want to share a little more about the magic of sourdough and why we’re passionate about bringing this delicious bread to your table.
The Art of Sourdough Baking
Sourdough bread is unique because it’s made using a natural fermentation process. Our beloved starterCALLED Fee-Dough —cultured with wild yeast and lactic acid bacteria—gives sourdough its distinctive tangy flavor and chewy texture. The slow overnite fermentation allows for complex flavors to develop while breaking down gluten, making it easier to digest compared to regular bread.
Our Process
Every loaf that leaves our bakery is crafted with love and care. Here’s a glimpse of our process:
- Ingredients: We source the finest organic local flours, filtered water, and natural salt to create our sourdough.
- Fermentation: Our dough undergoes a lengthy fermentation process that can take anywhere from 20to 48 hours. This slow rise is crucial for developing that signature Weirdough flavor.
- Baking: Each loaf is baked in a stone oven, ensuring an even crust and perfectly baked interior. The aroma that fills our bakery during baking is just a bonus!
Health Benefits of Sourdough
Did you know that sourdough bread has several health benefits? The fermentation process increases the bioavailability of nutrients and makes it easier for your body to absorb minerals. Plus, the lactic acid created during fermentation can promote gut health!
